Christian is a real organizational talent: in the Zurich office and as a family man.

"Keeping a lot of juggling balls in the air."

Christian Schmid was one of the first employees of our Zurich office in 2007. Today, as Delivery Manager, he is responsible for a large part of our Swiss project portfolio - and father of two children.

You joined CS over ten years ago straight from college. What appealed to you about the job?

Project management plays a key role in CS's consulting offering - that interested me. My application was followed by very pleasant discussions, including with Christophe and Eric. The result was that I became the second employee at CS in Zurich. Over the past eleven years, I've not only been able to do a lot of project work, but also help build up our presence in Switzerland.

A lot has happened since then: You are now Delivery Manager and father of two. How do you reconcile all this?

That, of course, requires a talent for organization. The opportunity to divide my work flexibly helps me a lot: being able to leave early during the day-care holidays, but conversely being able to make an important phone call from home after work - that's giving and taking. And of course you have to communicate openly with everyone involved. This applies to customers and colleagues, but of course also to my partner, who has a similarly demanding job to me. In the meantime, we have become a very well-rehearsed team!

How does your daily work look like at the moment?

Very varied. As Delivery Manager, I primarily manage a large part of our Swiss project portfolio and other projects all over the world. This means: I make sure that we work profitably, that our colleagues have interesting and suitable tasks and that our customers are happy.
I am also involved in operational projects. I am currently supporting a client on a typical "Business Transformation" topic: How do we have to design the processes so that they meet the future requirements of the business? And how do we take our employees along this path - because it is only through them that the innovations become a success? Because each of our customers has very different employees and processes, my professional challenges change continuously.

And the double challenge of "career and family" does not sometimes get too much for you?

On the contrary. My family helps me a lot to switch off in between. This gives me fresh energy for the job and allows me to concentrate fully on our customer projects.
This also benefits a further professional concern of mine: the consistent expansion of our location in Zurich. I am convinced that we still have a great deal of potential in Switzerland that is waiting to be activated. So it will certainly not be boring in the future!
