BARMER IT faces a number of specific challenges in the context of increasing digitalization. As of January 1, 2027, a large part of the data center services will be put out to tender. The goal is to significantly increase the stability of IT services and reduce the use of BARMER IT resources.
BARMER is looking to outsource a significant portion of its virtual desktop infrastructure, while standardizing and improving its performance, and is exploring the use of cloud-based delivery.
Prior to preparing the tender, a feasibility study was conducted for the most widely used cloud-based virtual desktop solution on the market, Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). The goal was to determine how a legally compliant implementation could be achieved, what impact it would have on BARMER's peripheral systems, and what alternatives were available. In addition, the costs had to be estimated.
