Central and efficient management of global large projects

Overseeing, managing and implementing global large projects in one tool – this option has become reality for Schindler thanks to the PPM Power Suite from Campana & Schott. The Global Large Projects department is responsible for large projects for installing the fastest elevators of the Schindler product portfolio in high-rise buildings, and it uses the solution to implement such projects.

The PPM Power Suite relies on continuous Microsoft technology and is tailored to individual requirements.

Starting situation: Information spread all over the place

Schindler manufactures and sells elevators, escalators and moving walkways for residential and commercial buildings, as well as hotels, industry, public facilities and the health care sector. In addition, the innovative PORT technology also enables optimum traffic management in large buildings. The Schindler Global Large Projects department is responsible for implementing global large projects. Until now, current data from different projects (e.g. basic data, financial information, order tracking or status) had to be obtained from different applications and consolidated.

As a Microsoft Partner, Campana & Schott offered a convincing technical solution using PPM Power Suite. But in addition to this technical aspect, Schindler also based its decision on the technical skills, the understanding of the specific requirements and the proven project approach with close monitoring.

Solution: Intuitive overview

The Global Large Projects department now relies on Campana & Schott’s PPM Power Suite solution to manage global large projects. It is based on the Microsoft Power Platform and also integrates other applications such as Project for the Web for project planning or PowerBI for reporting in the actual platform. These components can also be easily and automatically integrated into Microsoft Teams for collaboration in the project team. In this way, different components from the Microsoft universe can be bundled together. This is a major requirement for consolidating data from applications in one interface and for enabling efficient project management.

PPM Power Suite provides all users with access to data for all projects. Project managers also have editing rights for their own projects, and they mainly work in the platform. Project team members and other employees can view project information, the project plan or reports directly through Microsoft Teams and the applicable tabs. And using Microsoft Teams as the main collaboration tool also makes it possible to share and jointly edit associated information and documents. Through an integration with SAP, current data such as financial information is transferred to the solution - reliably and automatically.

The result: Well-founded decisions

“The PPM Power Suite sets out project data from different systems in one tool, allowing us to make well-founded decisions more quickly,” says Ralph Harmath. “The solution is practical and efficient. Additional information such as risks and opportunities, change requests or order tracking can also be captured. A regular status report also shows the current progress status. In this way, we can maintain an overview of the project over its entire life cycle, and we can take countermeasures at an early stage, if required.“

Highlights included the seamless integration of Project for the Web project planning into the PPM Power Suite, as well as the provision of Power BI reports, which can be retrieved live and historicized. This allows for modern visual reporting processes.
